Manchester City and Chelsea have entered the race as serious contenders to sign Gianluigi
Donnarumma, according to reports.
The AC Milan goalkeeper is considered the most promising stopper on the planet and the
natural successor to the long-time king of Italian football Gianluigi Buffon.
Manchester United want the 18-year-old to replace David de Gea should the stopper join
Real Madrid in a summer transfer, but they face serious competition from several Premier
League rivals.
Chelsea and City are prepared to smash the world record fee for a goalkeeper set by
Juventus when they paid £33 million for Buffon.
That record fee has stood for 16 years, but The Mirror claim Chelsea and City are convinced
they must break it to land Donnarumma.
AC Milan handed Donnarumma his debut when he was just 16 and he has remained the
No.1 at the club since that day.
Donnarumma could cost as much a £50 million and Milan are coming round to the idea of
selling off their prized asset.
The Italy international’s agent Mino Raiola is demanding Milan hand his player a £160,000-
a-week deal which is not a figure the Italian club are willing to pay.
City are on the hunt for a new stopper with Claudio Bravo making several high profile
mistakes in his first season before eventually losing his place to Willy Caballero.
Like United, Chelsea are concerned they could lose their No.1 to Spain with Thibaut
Courtois also linked to Real who are targeting a deal for the Belgian or De Gea in the
summer.
