Manchester United 1 Tottenham 0: Anthony Martial secures vital Premier League win at Old Trafford

Anthony Martial was Manchester United's super sub at Old Trafford as the French striker came off the bench to earn a 1-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham.

With chances few and far between until the closes stages of Saturday's tense contest, Spurs failed to deal with a long punt from David De Gea as Romelu Lukaku teed up substitute Martial for the winner nine minutes from time.

Dele Alli and Lukaku had both gone close with moments of each other just before Martial's goal, and Spurs will be left to rue Harry Kane's absence after failing to make the most of their openings.

Few will remember this game with any joy, but it will not matter to Jose Mourinho as United keep the pace on pace-setters Manchester City in the title race.
