Poland’s Magda Linette has beaten Australia's Daria Gavrilova 2:6, 6:0, 7:6 in the first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open WTA Premier tennis tournament in Tokyo, Japan.
Linette, aged 25, who is 74th in the WTA ranking, now takes on the Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova, who fell from no. 1 to no. 4 in the ranking earlier this month.
Linette was recently trounced by Pliskova 2:6, 1:6 in the first round of the US Open.
The Polish player last year reached the quarterfinals of the Tokyo tournament.
