THE Samsung Galaxy S8 release date is now days away, and the first detailed look at the new version of Android Nougat that will be running on the device has leaked online. Here's your first detailed look.
Samsung has suffered a torrent of hardware leaks around its hotly-anticipated new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8.
The Samsung Galaxy S8, and the larger S8+, are expected to jettison the physical Home Button from the front of the device in favour of an almost bezel-less edge-to-edge design.
This will purportedly allow the Samsung Galaxy S8 to ship with an impressive 5.8-inch Quad HD display, whilst maintaining the same footprint as the Galaxy S7.
There is also expected to be a 6.2-inch QHD AMOLED display model, marketed as the Galaxy S8+.
Samsung is believed to have relocated the fingerprint scanner to the rear of the device, after suffering a number of delays to its cutting-edge technology designed to embed the functionality beneath the glass display.
But while there has been a number of substantial leaks about the hardware, little is known about the software on the next Samsung device.
Thanks to a swathe of screenshots pulled from the latest APK of Samsung Smart Switch – an app designed to transfer data between Samsung devices – we now have a solid idea of what the operating system will look like on the Galaxy S8.
The leaked screenshots were unearthed by technology blog, SamMobile.
The new images reveal the main home page and and app launcher, as well as a handful of redesigned app icons, as they will appear on the Galaxy S8.
Elsewhere, the software leak confirms that Samsung will be sticking with its highly-skinned version of Google's open-source Android mobile operating system.
And it's possible this radical new software redesign will also filter down to other Samsung smartphones later in the year, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which are currently being updated to Android 7.0 Nougat
Samsung has also tweaked the design of the Home Button, Multi-Tasking and Back button – ditching the square, circle and triangle used by almost every other Android manufacturer.
These new screenshots seem to confirm the rumour that Samsung will drop the physical Home Button from the front of the device.
Previous hardware leaks appeared to confirm that Samsung would include the Edge screen that shipped with Galaxy S6 Edge and S7 Edge.
This lightweight panel swipes in from the right-hand side of the display and allows for quick access to contacts, sports scored, the latest headlines, and more..
However, the user interface element does not appear in the screenshots leaked from the Samsung Smart Switch APK.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are already available to pre-order, despite not having an official UK release date or price.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ (alongside a redesigned Gear VR headset to accommodate the new devices) will be unveiled at a media event on March 29th.
The hotly-anticipated smartphone will then land on UK shelves the following month – on April 28th 2017, according to renown tipster Evan Blass.
