LIONEL MESSI spearheaded a Barcelona meeting about midfielder Andre Gomes, according to reports.
Gomes has struggled at Barcelona since signing from Valencia back in the summer.
The Portugal international has looked out of his depth at the Nou Camp, with the Catalan giants a more fluid side without him.
It was reported earlier this month that Messi had ordered manager Luis Enrique to drop Gomes to save their season.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim Enrique’s decision to select him for the 1-0 defeat to Deportivo at the weekend has not gone down well.
It is claimed that Messi and other Barcelona players were fuming at Gomes’ abject performance in the disappointing display.
And they met among themselves to discuss what to do after the loss at the Estadio Riazor.
The report says the senior Barcelona players then demanded Enrique drop his big summer signing.
So angry were the squad that they were willing to exert as much influence as possible to ensure he be left out in the cold.
Messi, Gerard Pique, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano were all reportedly present.
And Gomes now looks set to spend more time on the bench as Barcelona chase silverware this season.
