So far, it hasn’t been a great return to Dortmund for Mario Gotze. He’s struggled on the pitch, and now his season has been ended prematurely.
Confirming everyone’s suspicions, Dortmund announced that they don’t expect Gotze back this season. Instead, their “goal” is for him to be back for next year’s campaign.
Gotze hasn’t appeared in a BVB squad since he was an unused substitute against RB Leipzig on February 4th. His last appearance of the season came just a few days before that, in a 1-1 draw with Mainz.
Gotze is reportedly suffering from a rare metabolic disorder. It seems like something which has been affecting him for a while, and probably contributed to his slow start to the season.
It’s a shame that his season ends this way, but this is definitely the right decision. Mario can now focus on getting back to full fitness.
Hopefully he comes back and is better than ever next season. We wish him all the best, as this is clearly a tough time for him.
