CHELSEA hero Michael Essien has signed a one year deal to join Indonesian club Persib Bandung.
Essien has agreed the 12-month contract with the option for a further year to continue his playing career in the emerging league in Indonesia.
The 34-year-old has been without a club since he left Panathinaikos in 2016, and has decided the timer is right for him to move to Asia as his playing career draws to an end.

Persib are based in Bandung, the capital city of Indonesia’s West Java province, and Essien wants other big names from world football to follow his lead by moving to the country.
He said: “I hope I am the prelude to other world players moving to Indonesia.
“Hopefully this is a good beginning for Indonesian football and also for Persib.”
Essien was one of the most influential players at Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge after making a £24million move from Lyon in 2005.
That Ghana midfielder established himself as one of the most destructive midfielders in world football with his tenacious style and also had an eye for spectacular goals.
During his time in west London he won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a League Cup - with the Champions League in 2012 the crowning glory.
A serious knee injury hampered his progress but he still went on to enjoy a season on loan at Real Madrid before a two-year stint playing for AC Milan.
